Westport Winery will host its annual Artisan Cheese Festival every Sunday in May. This festival will include live music from 11 am. to 4 p.m. on all four dates May 5, 12, 19, and 26. All festival attendees will receive a complimentary regional cheese tasting during their visit. Creameries represented at this event include Golden Glen, Willamette Valley, Rogue, Beechers, Mt. Townsend, and Willapa Hills. Cheese and wine share a long tradition of complimenting each other. This is a great opportunity to discover the magic that happens when they meld.

The winery will also be serving complimentary soup to guests of all ages. Those over 21 are welcome to sample up to five of Westport’s 33 award-winning wines for $5. Bring your favorite canines and join us for Yappy Hour every summer Sunday from 3pm to 5pm outside the patio. It is the perfect time and place for you and your pooch to socialize, soak up the sun, and enjoy the best days at the beach. Winery dogs Lulu (Lady Lukara) and Curzon Dax will likely join the fun. Local singer and songwriter David Anderson will be performing during dinner service from 5:30pm to 8:30pm. David is known for his amazing guitar skills, great vocals, truly original music, as well as covers of greats from Jack Johnson to Mumford and Sons.

The winery's Fifth Annual Fleur de Lis Festival is Sunday, June 9 from 11am to 4pm. This year's event will focus on the irises in bloom all around the farm.The winery will also open its newest garden, a lavender labyrinth. Within this garden there will be the unveiling of the winery's latest sculpture.

Westport Winery has selected North River artist Sherryl Butts-Jackson to create two new art displays in their outdoor sculpture garden. All previous sculptures at Westport Winery were created to commemorate one of the winery’s 33 wines. Jackson’s two sculptures were selected as the centerpieces of new tour and display gardens at the winery.

The first sculpture, titled Love, will be in the winery’s new lavender labyrinth. The labyrinth, designed by winery co-owner Kim Roberts in collaboration with Lavender at Stonegate owner Sarah Bader, will feature 350 Lavandula Angustifolia Royal Velvet. Bader is the author of The Lavender Lover’s Handbook published by Timber Press which is available for purchase at Westport Winery.

Bader will be autographing her books at this event. The winery is also planting an additional 20 varieties of lavender in their Vineyards By-the-Sea for use in their restaurant, bakery, and gift shop. All of these unusual plants selections will also be available for purchase in the winery’s nursery.

Jackson’s second sculpture will be the centerpiece of the winery’s French formal garden. This is one of seven “Destination Gardens” created to teach guests how to design their favorite vacation destination in their own backyard and is part of the winery’s nursery.

Jackson is a member of the Harbor Art Guild and shows her work at Six Rivers Gallery in Hoquiam, Fusions Gallery in Ocean Shores and Matter Gallery in Olympia. Her work was featured at the Grays Harbor College Fall Gala the last two years. She is the author and illustrator of the children's book Huckleberry Creek.

By special request Westport Winery has added a mystery dinner theater evening to its summer schedule. On Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16 at 6 p.m. the winery will offer the play What Happens in Markham, Stays in Markham.

For dinner, guests will be served a special Markham-themed menu including the winery’s signature oat rolls and sweet butter as they arrive and order beverages. After the first act they will enjoy an Ocean Spray summer salad. For their entrée guests have a choice of Asian BBQ Kolbi pork ribs or Sesame Seared Ahi Tuna accompanied by Yukon Gold baked potatoes and sesame-seared broccoli. The evening’s entertainment will conclude with their choice of one of the winery’s signature pies including dark chocolate, key lime, triple coconut and fresh raspberry cream.

Join the Westport Winery team on Sunday, June 30 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the culinary class with Urban Pantry author Amy Pennington. (This class was previously scheduled for April 28 and has been rescheduled.)

Pennington is known for her smart, concise guide to creating a full and delicious larder in your own home. In her book avid chef and gardener Amy Pennington demystifies canning and pickling for the urban kitchen and provides tips for growing a practical food garden in even the smallest of spaces. Her more than sixty creative recipes blend both gourmet and classic flavors while keeping economy in mind.

For the appetizer course during this class Pennington will teach guests to make toasted almond crackers to serve with artisanal cheese. She will then demonstrate her classic minestrone, a herbaceous summer soup. As a unique salad she will share her recipe for carrots and eggs with anchovy crumbs. Chef Pennington’s entrée for the course is spiced kibbe with herb yogurt alongside salt and nigella flatbread. As the perfect conclusion to the class Amy will create a buttermilk cake topped with rose-infused strawberries.

Each course will be paired with one of Westport’s award-winning wines as winery co-owner, Kim Roberts, discusses each wine’s pairing with these delicious recipes. Pennington’s book is available to purchase at the winery and she will offer autographs during this class.

This is the time to enjoy fresh produce from the winery’s farm, Vineyards-by-the-Sea. The blueberries, raspberries and blackberries plants love the farm and they will be offering delicious fruit fresh from the field. Follow the winery on Facebook to find out what is picked daily. As part of this harvest celebration the winery will also be offering tastes of a variety of specialty berry products.

Westport Winery's Bella Blood Drive is the best way to give the gift of life. On Friday, August 9 from noon to 5 p.m. the winery will accept reservations for up to three donors every 15 minutes. Free refreshments will be provided to donors.

Those who elect to give blood will earn a bottle of Bella at half price. A portion of the proceeds from this blend of Tempranillo, Refosco, Primativo, Barbera, Merlot and Syrah benefits the Mt. Rainier Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Blood Bank.
